Installing my custom colorscheme for Dwarf Fortress.
Installing custom color schemes for Dwarf Fortress is easy. This works and is the same process for both the "classic" free version of the game from the Bay 12 Games website and the "premium" paid-for version of the game from Steam.
* First, navigate to your Dwarf Fortress game directory. This is wherever you extracted the game if you downloaded it from the Bay 12 website, or if you own it on Steam you can just right-click the game and use "browse local files."
* Now, navigate to the data/init directory. In this folder are a bunch of text files. Copy colors.txt and make a backup of it. This is the game's default color scheme.
* Download my color scheme from here. You can either just copy and paste everything in the file or click the "Download raw file" button on the far right to download the file directly. This file needs to be called colors.txt
* Finally, drop colors.txt into the data/init directory of your Dwarf Fortress install.
If you want your game's ASCII font to look exactly like mine, you need to open init_default.txt (make a backup first) and change "FONT:" "FULLFONT:" and "BASIC_FONT:" to "curses_800x600"
